18 Let’s Read Dracula Like a Fujoshi — Somnophilia in Private

I believe today’s entry is the last we’ll be hearing from Jonathan for a while.

I can’t think of much to say personally except that I haven’t gotten any more tumblr harassment in a while. I guess my strategy worked! I’ll try to write up some more stuff just in case. I also found a very interesting article about Dracula and queerness specifically, that looks to have a lot to say about Bram Stoker’s personal life and interest in Oscar Wilde. It’s called “‘A Wilde Desire Took Me’: The Homoerotic History of Dracula” by Talia Schaffer.

Boys in fancy clothes smooching.

I don’t know what this is from but I got it by searching for Oscar Wilde.

I really want an excuse to read that essay but I’ve already started in on this vampire book so I guess we should finish that first. Let’s say I’ll make a bonus post for every $30 donated to my ko-fi? https://ko-fi.com/playerprophet

17 Let’s Read Dracula Like a Fujoshi — Kissing in Public

Here in Nova Scotia we’re having a loooong stint of rain, which is very depressing, but at least we’re not on fire. Unfortunately for me, the rain often comes with thunderstorms, which I find scary.

Scared Spongebob under the covers

I’m a big baby when it comes to loud noises and thunderstorms are just periods of unpleasant jumpscares. I don’t mind them if I’m home and hiding under the covers, but during the day I find them terribly inconvenient. I called out of my personal assistant gig on Tuesday because we were due for some storming, and then the thunder and lightning started on Wednesday as soon as I went outside to get groceries. Today I’ll be off to my PA gig again while thunder threatens to go with me to work, and I hate it. Getting mixed signals from Google about whether or not having my umbrella in a thunderstorm will kill me or not.

In Dracula, there’s no weather at all, as I’ve come to expect.

16 Let’s Read Dracula Like a Fujoshi — The Sexiest Sugar Daddy Who Ever Unalived

I had a sunny week and it was beautiful and we’re now going into a rainy one and I’m already depressed. Rain is necessary but I’d prefer a three-days-on, two-days-off deal for summertime.

I feel like I talk about the weather a lot while keeping this journal, which makes it feel more odd when Dracula doesn’t seem to exist in a world with weather. How does it feel to endure in panic and terror while it’s sweltering hot, with the window to narrow for a good breeze? Does the castle keep an unholy chill year-round? What do the Romani do when it rains? Maybe every day is beautiful and I’d be even more depressed being stuck inside.

Anyway, we have a double today!*

15 Let’s Read Dracula Like a Fujoshi — It’s Getting Hoodie-Stealing Serious

Hello again and happy midsummer! I’ll be having a picnic in the park with my friends today to celebrate the longest days of the year. It’s a little cloudy, but it’s warm, so all is well.

A tumblr ask from an anonymous person that just says "yes"

I hope you all enjoyed our academic detour last time as much as my anon here did. I got some positive feedback so maybe I’ll do another one next week. I cannot overstate how hard it was compared to just enjoying a novel and being horny about it.

14 Let’s Read Dracula Like a Fujoshi – Bonus For My Haters

So in my last post I opened asking “did you miss me?” And someone decided to send me this anonymous ask on tumblr:

A screenshot of an anonymous message on tumblr which simply says "no"

It’s possible that it wasn’t in relation to my Fujoshi Let’s Read, but this would be the third time someone has harassed me about this series on tumblr. I know “harass” is a strong word for this instance, but I can’t think of a better one for the vitriol people are spitting at me for being horny on the internet, the place where people go to be horny. Instead of muting me or filtering the word “fujoshi” to remove me from their online space, they encroach into my online space to make me try to feel bad about myself. So far no one has bothered me on twitter (probably because I keep forgetting the #draculadaily tag) and no one has told me to kill myself, so I find these interactions annoying at best and tiresome at worst.

This morning over coffee, with a cat asleep in my lap, I thought it over: what could I do to convince these people to google how to filter terms on tumblr? The answer is this: post more content.

Of course while we’re operating on Dracula Daily’s schedule, I can’t come up with much more stuff to do. BUT, I do have an academic book about vampires that I can tell you about, and we have countless movies and such that I can watch and post about too. Let’s be horny about gay vampires together and maybe be nerdy about academic shit.

13 Let’s Read Dracula Like a Fujoshi — Four Flea Circuses Flooding the Market

June 17

Welcome back to Fujoshi Dracula! Did you miss me? I did. I saved two entries so we can have a leisurely visit together.

The Dracula Daily email headlines June 17th with “Jonathan cudgels his brains,” which I found pretty strange until I read the first line.

This morning, as I was sitting on the edge of my bed cudgelling my brains[…]

I don’t think that cudgelling your brains is very good for you.

12 Let’s Read Dracula Like a Fujoshi — An Even Sadder Kind of Castle Prison

Dracula Daily warns me that it’ll be a few weeks before we get another update so I guess I might as well post about this one.

As for me, the wildfires are doing well as it has started raining and we might be lucky enough to see the sun again halfway through June. Hopefully by then all the fires will be gone but I feel like we’ve got more in our future anyway. Fires are an important part of a forest’s lifecycle, it’s just annoying when they’re caused by people being stupid.

11 Let’s Read Dracula like a Fujoshi — Fires and Trafficking

Welcome back, Draculas! I missed this blog in the few days that I didn’t get any Dracula Dailies. It’s such a great tool for procrastinating on things I should be doing, just like right now.

But last time I opened up my blog saying it was a beautiful day in Halifax, on the same day that the area erupted into flames. We’ve got rain in the forecast to hopefully stamp it out but, thanks to a lot of fallen trees last year in a nasty hurricane, plus climate change, there’s a lot of dead wood lying around and waiting to burn. Lost homes and pets and wildlife are tragic but I suspect 2023 is going to be the year of fires in Nova Scotia.

For the record, I’m not in the direct path of any fires, but if I am you’ll definitely see my complaining about it on social media.

I feel like this represents me on May 28th and now on May 31st:

two screenshots from Gundam featuring a person grinning and saying "I'm a genius!" Then looking shocked and saying "Oh no!"

Meanwhile, today’s Dracula Daily is pretty short but I think the next one isn’t until June 5th, so why wait?

10 Let’s Read Dracula Like a Fujoshi — Let Me Tell You About Whump

Good morning! It’s a beautiful day in Halifax, whetting our appetites for summer. I have work to do but hopefully I’ll be able to spend some time picking dandelions to make honey and booze while the temperature is above freezing. Maybe I’ll even get some ice cream.

I’m just realizing that Jonathan never remarks on the weather in Transylvania. Is it hot there this time of year? Rainy?

According to my notes, Dracula Daily slows down for a little bit from here, so I’m going to try to avoid stacking up more than one entry where I can. I wonder when we’ll get to hear about what happened at the sexy ménage à trois campfire?

May 28

Today we’re back with Jonathan, who is writing in his shorthand code. Some Romani have encamped in the courtyard.
